Flatts Nursery School is a Local Authority Maintained School. We have a full two day school inspection. We were last inspected in May 2026 under the new framework.
Following a full two-day inspection under Ofsted's new report card framework, our maintained nursery school was judged to be Strong in every area inspected, with safeguarding standards fully met.
This is a fantastic achievement for our whole school community and reflects the dedication of our staff, governors, children and families.
As this is the first inspection under Ofsted's new framework, we would like to explain what this means. Under the new system:
An Expected judgement represents a high standard that schools are required to meet.
A Strong judgement is awarded when inspectors identify particularly effective practice that goes beyond these expectations and has a significant positive impact on children's education, development and wellbeing.
We are therefore immensely proud that our school was judged to be Strong in every area inspected.
The report paints a picture of a school where children are happy, confident and ready to learn. Inspectors found that "Children receive a warm welcome from staff each day and quickly settle into the calm, nurturing environment." They also recognised that "The school is highly ambitious for every child who attends."
Inspectors highlighted our strong focus on communication and language, noting "a clear emphasis on developing language as the foundation for learning." They found that children are "well prepared for school" and develop "the language, learning behaviours and personal qualities that provide them with secure foundations for future learning."
We were particularly pleased that inspectors recognised the positive behaviour and attitudes of our children. The report states that "Children behave very well" and show "impressive self-discipline for their age." Inspectors also noted that children "show positive attitudes to learning, persevere with tasks and are beginning to resolve minor conflicts independently."
The inspection recognised the strength of our curriculum, our commitment to inclusion and the high expectations we have for every child. Inspectors found that "Highly positive relationships sit at the centre of the school's inclusive practice" and praised the support provided for all children, including those with SEND and those learning English as an additional language.
We were particularly proud that inspectors recognised our partnership with families. Inspectors described the school's work with parents and carers as "a notable strength" that "shapes its inclusive and supportive culture." They also reported that "Parents and carers speak highly of the school" and recognise the commitment and dedication shown by leaders and staff.
